Go to G2 at First Friday on Abbot Kinney

Getty has its first fridays program. So does the Natural History Museum. However, there's a smaller First Friday in Los Angeles, one with a less grandiose budget, little advertising, but is worth a look at. For the past couple years merchants of Abbot Kinney in Venice stay open until 10pm and often host art gallery openings, live music, or in store events.

And if you go, make sure to check out the new environmentally conscious photo-focused G2 Gallery, which opened last month featuring the work of world renowned wildlife photographer Tom Mangelsen. You may not know Mangelsen by name, but you've most likely seen his photographs in National Geographic or other nature magazines. Named one of the 100 most important people in photography by American Photo Magazine and many many other recognitions, this show is definitely worth looking forward to. It will be like National Geographic super-sized includingi the famous Morning Shower.

First Fridays on Abbot Kinney begins at 6 p.m. tonight. There's great food in the area to check as well including Mao's Kitchen and Abbot's Pizza Company.

wow. thanks for this very healing post. after the long years of knee-jerk anti-westsideness , it feels really good.

and as a AK neighbor I can tell you the street is like a giant cocktail party on these FFs

heh, thanks lovedog. And to be honest, one of my favorite venues in all of Los Angeles is the Temple Bar. Whoever books the acts there knows what's up.

very true that. I've always described as a place you could wander into on any given night and it would not suck. Ahh, memories of Dengue Fever, Brazilian Girls, Cheb i Sabbah, Mystic flooding into my brain. . .
