For the second time this week, Glendale Police were faced with an alleged suspect shooting at them. Last night, they were involved in a three-hour standoff near the entrance of Forest Lawn with a man suspected of a murder earlier last night in Los Angeles outside a bowling alley. At the time of arrival, though, it was not known that the murder and the man were connected.

LAPD became involved when the man shooting at police was located inside the park where the Glendale-Los Angeles border is located. At one point, police say the suspect who was barricading himself inside a SUV, drove the vehicle towards police who then returned with fire, disabling the vehicle and injuring the suspect.

Sometime during the standoff, police learned of the connection between the man and the earlier murder. Before 8 p.m. last night, a woman was shot several times at Midtown Bowling Lanes on Venice Blvd. near San Vicente. She died later at the hospital.

The first Los Angeles murder of 2008 happened at the same park. Starting tonight at 6:01 p.m., a period of 40 hours of peace begins in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
