I have to go to Krust(y) just to see this for myself. In Boston, people go to Durgin Park for this sort of thing. When I waited tables in NY, I could be surly but at least my service was good. And a reviewer who tells them in advance? Um ... yeah.

babamoto, some of us have been going to porto's since childhood when it was a tiny hole in the wall location in glendale. i'd hardly call that being a 'trendoid' or creating a cult around it. the reason so many like their stuff is because it's GOOD. there is a reason for the hype. and corner cottage is hardly a secret.

i've been a few times late in the afternoon on weekdays and have received decent customer service from the daughter i believe. haven't been all that impressed with the food though...

Summa you trendoids have created a cult around PORTO'S BAKERY,3614 W Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, CA 91505. And keep going there in droves for their over-hyped fare, ok? I prefer PARADISE PASTRY & CAFE, 1815 Glenoaks Blvd., near the Burbanq/Glendale border. Shhh, it's the best kept secret in this area along with CORNER COTTAGE'S scrumptious Korean-made breakfast burritos.

samkim, since you seem to like to review BBQ places let me suggest one of my favorites. Uncle Joe's Soul Food 12807 Crenshaw Blvd. Hawthorne, CA. 90250 Besides excellent wood smoked BBQ with your choice of tangy mild or spicy hot BBQ sauce, they have lots of other southern favorites. lunch and dinner deals run from $3.25 for greens and corn bread, to $16.95 for two meats and two sides. It's a small Mom and Pop resturant tucked in a little strip shopping center. Give it a try.

elise, it's martino's. http://www.martinosbakery.com and those teacakes are fantastic! my best friend actually had them at her wedding reception in addition to a cake. i hadn't heard of krust, but i doubt i'd go there. seems like way too much trouble for good food i can get elsewhere.

WHAT NO PRICES!?!? Just kidding, I won't need them! Of all the cafes and resturants I avoid it's usually because of rudenss not the food, quality, or decore. Thanks for taking the bullet Elise and Lindsey. That's one place I'll aviod. I mean why pay some one to be rude to you? I can get that for free.

Wow, how unfortunate! My wife and I have gotten lunch from Krust several times and have had the opposite experience. I'm not sure that we ever encountered the co-owner, but the staff that served us made us feel right at home in their bakery. I have recommended Krust to a number of my friends, they have also enjoyed the food, I'll just warn them not to bring their camera's. ;-)

I'm often in Los Feliz, so I'll check out Los Feliz Bakery. Portos is peerless. If you are in Burbank. DB, Martinello's has those lovely teacakes, and DON_T HUT has really good cinnamon rolls. But for "ladies who lunch" sandwiches I guess I'll stick with Urban Eats.

This really sucks since the neighborhood is indeed bereft of a good bakery. Too bad. I'll be sure and wave as I drive by. Or maybe I should stop and snap some photos. :) At least we have Porto's. w00t!

I know, it's out of that area, but the Los Feliz Bakery rules. Their stuffed croissants are the best. And the women that run the place are lovely
