TV Junkie: Wednesday
Spike has a new, totally original show that is essentially 'Cops' for the Drug Enforcement Agency and it has the totally original name 'DEA'. “Television viewers will get the same unprecedented access to the inner workings of the DEA as our camera crews – the raids, the risk and the danger,” said Al Roker, executive producer (Al Roker??!! He's so effing hardcore). “When you watch ‘DEA,’ you will feel like you have gone undercover.”
This morning NPR did a bit on last-place NBC's effort to get attention from advertisers by publishing a 52-week (hey, that's year 'round folks) schedule of show releases. In reality they are staggering their show releases more evenly over the 52 weeks instead of a huge roll out of shows in the fall. Speaking of reality, NBC is reportedly going to do this on the cheap by programming even more reality shows vs. scripted. It sounds like the effort will just be spreading the butter very thinly and since reality TV is so disposable it's less like butter and more like Parkay.
The pick tonight is Jacques Cousteau's son's PBS show. This will be fun mainly because while watching you can mutter in a French accent, "Ze men were quite restless - we had not seen ze turtles in 5 days" (etc.).
