La La La Human Steps Coming to UCLA

La La La Human StepsReturning to Westwood after a five year absense, Montreal postmodern dance company La La La Human Steps brings its newest explosion of clasical technique, high speed dancing and punk attitude to Royce Hall this weekend through UCLA Live.

Choreographed by Artistic Director Edouard Lock, "Amjad" re-fashions the romantic ballets that inspired it through the voracious dancing of nine extraordinary movers, film and original music composed and played live on stage by Bang on a Can's David Lang.

Like its 2003 creation "Amelia," this new work is making its U.S. premiere here in Los Angeles, with exacting technique, sophisticated structure and high speed pointe work (for women and men). Expanding the dance experience beyond its conventional parameters, Lock has been making work for the international stage since 1980, earning awards and acclaim from both Canadian and European organizations. He has collaborated with David Bowie and Frank Zappa and has choreographed for ballet companies across the globe.

Videos of Amjad and Amelia, a short dance film which we highly recommend you watch, are below.
