Though it did decent business at the box office, I'm thinking that Sweeney Todd will kill on DVD. It's Burton's best film since Edward Scissorhands. I enjoyed Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, but it's nice to see him in something less hammy. I understand that David Cross did Alvin and the Chipmunks because he needed the dough, but what's Jason Lee's excuse? He can retire on his Earl money. How about something less crappy next time? John from Cincinnati was obviously too elliptical for anyone to completely puzzle out, but I still liked it. Brian Van Holt is always aces in my book and Emily Rose was a revelation in a small role.

The best episode of Father Knows Best is still the one that was transmogrified in Natural Born Killers. I have no doubt it will enrage LAist's liberal audience, but I actually enjoy reading William F. Buckley's writing. I may not agree with him, but the man is a fucking virtuoso with words (though I'm quite certain he never used the phrase "fucking virtuoso"). Considering that all the Monty Python crew (save Graham) are still productive, how about a real reunion on film? Remember when only good movies had sequels? Now any movie with a recognizable title is bastardized into straight-to-DVD crap. Didn't the first Cutting Edge answer everything 15 years ago?
