At Point Fermin last year where one person was found dead, another injured | Photo by Marshall Astor - Food Pornographer via Flickr
Update: The death has been ruled a suicide for a woman in her forties.
One person has been found dead at a cliff near Point Fermin in San Pedro. Specifically, officials have been called to 900 W Paseo del Mar within Angels Gate Park according to Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesman Brian Humphrey. The LAPD is currently investigating as LAFD helicopters await to possibly airlift the body to the Korean Bell of Friendship where the coroner is waiting.
Three likely scenarios will play out of the investigation: the person either fell, jumped or was washed ashore. For the most part, the cliff is fenced and to put oneself in a position of falling, you must go through a physical effort of some sort.
Deaths are not unusual in the Point Fermin cliff area; Humphrey estimates there are about two deaths a year. Most notably in the news was when USC kicker Mario Danelo was found dead at the bottom of the cliff.

I checked this out on my way into work at AGCC this morning. The body wasn't found in Angels Gate Park, it was found off of Point Fermin. They did move the body from the bottom of the cliff to the Korean Bell, which is where they normally make the switch from the helicopter to a vehicle when this happens. No details on the identity or cause of death that I could get.
Here's a photo from above of the lookyloos along Paseo. Also on the scene were a half dozen fire trucks, two paramedic vans, lifeguards, various LAPD, several helicopters and a trio of fire boats. You can see Mike Watt on the sidewalk if you squint - he's in his yellow slicker and orange bike helmet, taking photos.

Here's an image of the body being transferred from the helicopter to a paramedic van.
