Star Wars "Rejected" Toys & Products
NPR's All Things Considered recently ran a story pulled from Action Figure Insider on unused Star Wars merchandise created while the prequels were in development. The story goes that Jason Geyer, a toy developer at a small agency, got the chance to design products for the upcoming Episode One, but because production was so hush-hush, he had to do it while not privy to any info on the film. So Geyer and his team brainstormed and came up with several ideas, only to have some of them turned down by Lucas afterwards because they involved creatures or concepts not relevant to the prequel (duh).
The proposed merchandise, however, is pretty awesome. LAist favorites include the Cloud City Lamp, the Han Solo in Carbonite mini-fridge, and the Cockpit Sun-Shade. The post received so many comments on Action Figure Insider, that Geyer had to write a follow-up post, explaining that not all of the items shown were necessarily rejected forever, as well as issuing a disclaimer as to whether or not the Princess Leia headphones were actually ripped off from Spaceballs, yadda yadda.
Who wants that Carbonite mini fridge? We do.

I would have bought some of those products if they were on the market. But then again I'm a nerd like that.
