TnT is excellent, and there's also triathlon and century cycling teams if you want to do something other than running.

Great piece. If it hadn't been for TNT, I wouldn't still be running. I now get up at 5:30am Saturday mornings out of my own free will and run distance. I look forward to it and I look forward to the New SGV coaching shouting at me from the sidelines. Not only did I raise money for a great charity, I met some cool people. I never would've thought I could run anything more than 3miles.

Jimmy - No comment.;-)

Jessica - Thanks, and I'll definitely cover all the different running groups. I personally love trail running, so thanks for the heads up about the club.

I think it's great that you are talking about running groups. It's a great way to stay fit and stay motivated. I hope in your review you will include some trail running options. I personally founded the Orange County Trail Runners (http://www.theoctr.org) and we run all over Orange County and sometimes in LA. There is also at least one trail running group in the immediate LA area (http://www.trailrunnersclub.com/)
Regards,
Jessica

All of that is great, Raul. Except the photos of that coach. I've heard of that guy. I hear he is somewhat of a attention whore and a loud, obnoxious windbag. *playful wink*

I'm a member of the Eastside TNT for Spring/Summer Triathlons. I am 2 months in and having a blast. I can't say enough about the experience and people involved. I am racing in memory and spirit of a dear friend lost in november.

care to donate? here!

I did the the National AIDS Marathon Training Program in 2000 for the Chicago Marathon and agree that training with a team is one of the best experiences.

Fund raising was the most difficult aspect, but I was very persistent and took my fund raising info everywhere I went, and met my goal.

I know that for those that may find fund raising daunting the LA Leggers helps you train for the LA Marathon w/o having to fund raise, not sure if you have to pay a fee to train with them.

I've heard you can arrange to do something like that. The Greater LA teams don't support the NY Marathon, but what you might be able to do is join a TNT team in NY and train remotely with teams in LA. Or you can arrange with a local team to fundraise for them but run NYC. The long and short of it is that if you're willing to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, they won't turn you away. Best to check with the campaign managers, though, to see if something can be arranged.

Thanks for this post! I'm looking to run the NY marathon this fall, but I've already signed up and have handled my transportation. Can you register for this to simply train for your run?
