East Hollywood Vows Bike Friendliness
After releasing a transportation vision on YouTube last week, the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council took yet another step in becoming a more transit friendly neighborhood, specifically in regards to bicyclists. The Bike Writers' Collective, a coalition of top bicycle bloggers in Los Angeles (which includes an LAist contributor) presented the "Cyclists' Bill of Rights" to the council, who unanimously passed a motion to endorse it.
In a statement from the cycling writers group, it said at the meeting that Bikrowave head Alex Thompson spoke of the need to communicate to both cyclists and non-cyclists that our streets are public space and that our place on the streets is guaranteed by state law. And now it looks as if the East Hollywood community, which includes the Bicycle District (some call it Hel-Mel for Heliotrope and Melrose) will be paying special attention to this issue for protection of bicyclists.
Also: Tomorow at noon Metro Chair Pam O’Connor will host her fourth live chat, asking if LA wants traffic relief enough to change its driving habits and pay for building out the transit infrastructure.

AWRIIIGHT!! East Hollywood... you go!
but whatever happened to "Baja Melrose", the old ('80s) title for the intersection?
yr loca(l) rider,
teeeeem
Thanks again LAist for the coverage!
Teeem: "Baja Melrose" ended once Y-Que - where Orange 20 Bikes is today - moved to Los Feliz...
Speaking of '80s, you might like this scene from a popular movie from that era. Guess where it was filmed? :)

I got my driver's license renewed recently, and took the short little refresher quiz that the DMV gives you every so often.
I don't recall seeing even one question about a motor vehicle driver's responsibilities towards the safety of bicylists.
Is the bicycle lobby working on anything that might change that oversight?
Just curious.
Oh boy, let's hope the old lady doesn't find out that this picture is public, I could get in a lot of twouble. :)
Anyways, right on East Hollywood... great neighborhood.
Fred, you CC License your girlfriend?!!?! :P
Yeah big mistake! Damn that Flickr default to CC setting! Luckily this is buried a few pages in by now :)
