Lodger: what? Wow - they must have some heavy duty corporate policy to push those shakes! That is too funny. Elise: of course we could, but that's only more ammunition. I just spoke w/my dad (the irish bartender) who is gearing up for tonite and tomorrow.

Well, this was my experience on Mar. 14: I live in Pasadena, CA, and I decided to get a Shamrock Shake. (Note: I've heard plenty of advertising both on radio and TV for these). I went to a store around the corner from me, but was told that they "Don't have them right now." So I went to another a few blocks farther away because, you know, they're everywhere. Again, I was told that they "Don't have them right now." (Note #2: They had vinyl signs by the drive-thrus, saying AHH, AHHH, AHHHH for the different sizes) OK, so now I'm a little pissy, or pissssssy, so when I noticed a phone number above the order window for comments, I decided to give them a call. I reached a voice mail and told them what had happened. Within twenty minutes I got a call from Sam, the Vice President for the region. He was beside himself with apologies, and not only set me up with a free shake at another location, but is sending me free desert coupons. I was surprised that I got a call back at all, let alone been offered anything for free. So maybe there are plenty other more important things I could be worrying about, but those are for next week. Today I get to have a shake.

I was really hoping it would be good, since I love Thin Mint cookies. But I'm not willing to try another location for verification. Donna: Maybe we should post the "offensive Irish stereotype of the day" until Monday! Franklin Ave: What do the signs/posters look like? I havelooked all over to get a pic. And congrats on 5 years! I tried looking at McDonald's website and couldn't find anything but I did spend too much time playing in their interactive "Asian room". I was very disappointed the Godzilla didn't do anything, but you could really do a cool sample of "year of the rat! year of the rat! year of the the the rattherattherat..." by hovering over the golden rat. Hmm, I've heard some ads on the radio... plus see signs every time I pass by McDonald's advertising the return of the shake. As we noted over at Franklin Avenue, the LA-area McDonald's haven't offered the Shamrock Shakes in several years; this March marked its triumphant return. (What can I say, like the equally elusive McDonald's pumpkin pie, I've been a sucker for limited-edition treats since childhood.)

Yeah, I heard that ad, too! But thanks for taking one for the team, Elise. I totally forgot what these tasted like and now I'm glad that I'm really not missing anything. But I think I used to love these when I was a kid.

I actually heard an ad for the Shamrock Shake on KROQ the other day.
