Celebrate St. Patty's Day & Here's Your Monday Transit Alert

People say Downtown is the most transit dense area in the city. And if you need proof, Monday's St. Patrick's Day Parade that goes down a total of two streets will affect 55 bus routes for about an hour and a half.

The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. near Olvera Street, making it rail friendly from the Union Station hub. Beginning at Main and Arcadia Streets, the parade will head south on Main, passing City Hall, to 5th St. where it will turn west to Hill St. near Pershing Square.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m., Pershing Sqaure will host a midday soiree of sorts, with the Young Dubliners playing at 12:30 p.m., ending at 2:00. Vendors will be serving food and drinks -- no word on if there will be beer or not. Nevertheless, you may have checked out LAist's early opening Irish pub guide and already gotten your drink on.

Metro Bus Route Changes

DASH Changes (via LADOT)
There is a temporary re-route of DASH Downtown Route D for the St. Patrick's Day Parade, scheduled for Monday, March 17, 2008 between the hours of 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM (approximately). Main Street between Arcadia and 5th Streets will be closed for the Parade. Regular service on DASH Route D will resume once the streets are re-opened after the Parade.

* DASH Downtown Route D passengers who normally use bus stops located on Main Street at either 4th Street or 5th Street can board at the 6th Street and Main Street bus stop.
* DASH Downtown Route D passengers who normally use bus stops located on Main Street at either 1st Street or 3rd Street can board at the temporary stop which will be located on Los Angeles Street at 2nd Street.

In addition, LADOT cautions that from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, DASH Downtown Routes A and B and the City Hall Shuttle may be affected by congestion from the street closures and passengers should expect delays on these routes as well. LADOT advises passengers to plan their trips acoordingly.

thx for the info, will have to be downtown for a class project...maybe we'll head over to the festival if we're done early.

but wots up with having it on a monday? would love to be able to attend as it sounds like a lot of fun... but like several million people... i work mondays.

The other several million will be taking a "mental health day" to drink. Wanna join?

Aah yes, along Los Angeles' historic "Dublintown".

The parade has always been on a weekday I think? I've watched the past two years with co-workers. I don't recall seeing any beer vendors.
