There's More to Pasadena Than the Rose Bowl: Arts Fest This Weekend

Get artsy at the Norton Simon Museum

Spring is finally almost here and what better way to enjoy the arts and the outdoors then at the Pasadena Art Weekend? For three days, the city of Pasadena's epicenter of focus won't be on the Rose Bowl, but instead music, spoken word and visual arts.

Here's a breakdown of the weekend's activities:

ArtNight on Friday from 6-10 pm : Pasadena's cultural institutions like the Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena Jazz Institute, Art Center College of Design and the Pasadena have extended hours, special programs and -- best of all -- it's all free. That also includes free shuttes and a free bike tour to the places holding open houses.

ArtTalk on Saturday from 11-5 pm: This six-hour event takes place at the Boston Court Performing Arts Center and at the Regency Academy Theatre. On the bill are drummers from the Taiko Center; Def Poets: Paul Mabon, Viet Mai, and Joe Hernandez-Kolski and the documentary This is the L.A. River.

ArtMarket on Sunday from 10 am-5 pm: Sometimes you get the best deals on original works at these art fairs. This one, located in the One Colorado Courtyard, features paintings, photos sculptures and mixed media pieces created by students, faculty and alumni from the Art Center College of Design and Pasadena City College. And if you don't have the cash to support starving artists, just remember that browsing the art is still free.
