Pre-St. Paddy's Day Party Tonight: Ollin, the Mexican Pogues, at 7 Grand

OllinSeven Grand is kicking things off early for St. Patrick's Day with East L.A. band Ollin performing at the beloved downtown whiskey bar tonight at 9pm (see a video of them below). Ollin is known as "The Mexican Pogues" for their fiesta-festive take on the English/Irish band's songs. Think Irish Mariachi music.

Ollin has performed at Mr. T's Bowl and Spaceland and even opened for the Pogues last year at the Wiltern. They would have celebrated St. Patrick's Day at 7 Grand* if they didn't already have a prior engagement opening for the real Pogues in New York City's Roseland Ballroom Monday.

At Seven Grand, they'll do up The Pogue's Rum, Sodomy and the Lash. Best thing about it all? No cover! Kick back with some fine Irish Whiskey and some really festive Irish/Mexican music.

* Instead The Dirges will perform at the bar on St. Paddy's Day, followed by a dj. There will be a pint, a stout and a shot 'o Irish drink special. If you want to party with the Dirges, you can catch them at Molly Malone's beforehand at 3pm and then board their party bus for 7 Grand and then back on the bus to Molly's for their 11pm second show. They'll serve yummy Guinness on the bus. Tickets to board are available on their Myspace.

For those who miss(ed) this performance, Ollin will also be performing Rum, Whiskey and the Lash at Alex's in Long Beach on Saturday night. Local heroes The Amadans will be opening (Their name means "idiots" in Gaelic).
