Boston Area Man Threatens Van Nuys Airport, Jodie Foster

Why would Michael Smegal, 42, of Holliston, MA send hundreds of letters to various people around Los Angeles, including Van Nuys Airport informing them of his plans to blow up Van Nuys Airport?

The Answer is simple: "The FBI said Smeagal targeted airports because he believed they were connected to the Screen Actors Guild, which he feels had been making disparaging remarks about Foster," according to KCBS. See, makes sense!

Federal agents did a search of Smegal’s parents house back in January, where he lives, and found numerous letters not mailed that were similar to the one he had sent to the Van Nuys Airport in December of 2007. In 2004 he started contacting the Oscar winning actress , sending her letters and packages. In 2005 after being contacted by the police, he agreed to stop writing Foster.

Smegal could face 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted, and according to the US Attorney General’s Office, he is also not allowed to use the US Mail, internet, and phone and is forbidden to contact Foster. This situation is something that Foster is all too familiar with. Back in 1981, John Hinkley shot President Ronald Regan in an attempt to impress her.
