Though its elliptical ending caused a bit of a backlash, I can't imagine any serious film fan not enjoying the hell out of No Country for Old Men. It doesn't quite rise to the level of the Coen's one perfect film, Miller's Crossing, but it's full of violent beauty. Incidentally, if you don't think the ending works, remember that No Country is really all about Tommy Lee Jones' sheriff. Viewed from that perspective, the final scene is one of poetic finality. Hitman isn't a good movie, but it is a great bad movie and Olga Kurylenko is hereafter on my radar. Bachelor Party 2 finally ties up all the loose ends of the original that have been bedeviling viewers for nigh on two decades.

Lake of Fire is the finest pro-life movie ever made. It is also, curiously enough, the finest pro-choice movie ever made. Director Tony Kaye virtually returns from the dead to direct the definitive abortion movie of our culture. It is tough, required viewing for everyone. Though due credit is given to D.W. Griffith as one of the pioneers of modern filmmaking technique, attention should also be paid to one of the originators of special effects, Georges Melies. It seems crude to us now, but Melies accidental discovery of the stop trick was a crucial first step in the development of the effects we now take for granted. If you like Godard, you will love Gas Pump Girls.
