Ha! I turned off the Kings game when they were up 1-0 with about five minutes to go. The only thing left to see this season is whether or not they can hang on to last place, or whether they'll leapfrog Tampa Bay and come in 29th.

I had thought that when the trade was made also, but after watching the Jerry West "In My Own Words," I decided against that. In it, West was pretty clear about staying away from everything basketball and enjoying his free time. If you didn't catch it, they're re-broadcasting it on FSN tonight at 6:30PM.

Besides, Kwame Brown was one of the better expiring contracts out there. And as much as Gregg Popovich would like to protest, nobody really offered Memphis anything better at that mid-season point. Memphis got better offers during the offseason, but they probably didn't think they were going to be so horrible in a stacked West.

Andy - I don't believe that was Kupcake's move for a second. Jerry West is still tied to both teams, still has a lot of influence, and I've got a pretty strong hunch he masterminded the deal. That's the only thing that explains why Memphis was willing to get so badly screwed on the deal. And not only could West justify it in terms of his own sentimentality and feeling bad for the Lakers, it's a good move for the entire sport to have a vibrant franchise in LA built around one of the Association's biggest stars.

Jayson - LAst Night's Action is the name of this feature. We've written hundreds upon hundreds of them. Gothamist has Last Night's Action, and we kept the title as a hat tip but capitalized the second letter to tie-in LA.
