Funeral for Jamiel Shaw Today at 11am

Jamiel ShawJamiel Shaw, a 17-year-old boy who was shot to death by gang members on March 2, will be buried this morning at 11 a.m. The burial will follow a funeral at West Angeles Church of God in Christ.

Shaw was from West Adams, and was shot just outside his home and his murder has made national headlines. A star football player, he was on track to go to college on scholarship, and at the time of his murder his mother, Anita Shaw, was serving in Iraq. His death was part of a string of seemingly unrelated gang violence in Los Angeles that has targeted innocent victims.

"The community needs to stand up as a whole and stop this, stop the madness," Anita Shaw said. "Why do we have to continue to live like this? They need to stand up and say enough is enough." - cbs2.com

In the below video, a local resident reflects on his own role in the community, and the senseless tragedy of Shaw's unprovoked murder, and calls for the city to stop the violence.

More video tributes and reflections can be found here.
