Largo to Close? What's Happening to Fairfax Village?

Largo may close and move locations according to rumors on the internetFirst Nova Express Cafe? Now Largo? The good news, however, is that Largo's alleged closing is about opening a new space on La Cienaga according to bulletin board threads on www.fairfax-avenue.com and the Ditty Bops' website.

A February 21st post on Fairfax Avenue repeated what Sara Watkins (of the Watkins Family Hour) wrote on a MySpace bulletin: "Largo will be closed and moving to a great new location during May (to open in June) so hurry down if you want to see the original venue." Discussion ensued and apparently Largo will be moving to Coronet Theatre, which is about a mile away on La Cienaga. One commenter was skeptical about the loss Largo's intimacy, yet came to a compromise -- "but also no waiting on the street anymore.'

No one at Largo could be reached to confirm Watkins' statement and the calendar on their website is booked through March.

If Largo moves, street parking may continue to be a hassle for the new space, but as another commenter notes, it will be near "Real Food Daily, Borders, Beverly Center and just a couple blocks away from Urth Caffe for a fing really good coffee." Sounds like quite a posh change to the Largo we all know and love.

But loss of intimacy will be the reoccurring theme as emphasized over at the Ditty Bops forum. "I hope that, as the Largo expands, it won't loose its famous intimate atmosphere," one fan wrote. "It's a fine venue." And to that, we hope, if this is all true, that the space remains a place for great music and not turned into another Italian sandwich shop like Nova Express did.

I fear change. This sounds awful.

Why did someone write "fing" for "effing" or "f-ing"? As far as I'm concerned, its proximity to all of the crap places listed there does nothing for it.

I would gladly trade in an overpriced coffee at Urth for an overpriced pastrami sandwich at Canter's.

What?!?!?! This is terrible! WHYYYYYY??!?!?!??!

"it will be near "Real Food Daily, Borders, Beverly Center and just a couple blocks away from Urth Caffe for a fing really good coffee."

Oh man, this is weird! First Nova and then Largo= high school hangouts. Me and my friends used to see Elliot Smith play secret shows here while he was recording XO. Sad.
