The Hollywood Coalition of Neighborhood Councils is hosting a Town Hall on Thursday night to address "Parking, Planning and Transportation."
In an effort to entice attendees, the Coalition promises "plenty of free parking," thereby demonstrating a commitment to an old, tired paradigm of transportation that will continue to result in the gridlock, congestion and frustration the Coalition purports to address in the Town Hall.
The Coalition is missing a big opportunity to encourage the community to use mass transit, failing to point out that the Town Hall is being held three blocks from the Hollywood & Vine Red Line Station, two blocks from the 180, 181, 217, 206, 780 and 1 block from the DASH.
Also... the City of Los Angeles will take a significant step toward addressing traffic congestion and parking issues when it establishes a simple policy that 1) all meetings conducted by City Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards, Committees and Councils are held in facilities that are accessible by all modes of travel (accommodating pedestrians, cyclists, mass transit and yes, even motorists) and 2) that all press releases and promotional materials for City events clearly articulate and support the pedestrian, cyclist and mass transit access.
The Coalition should be cheered for talking the talk but jeered for missing the opportunity to walk the walk, both figuratively and literally.
Rumors that pedestrians and cyclists are also welcome at the Town Hall are unconfirmed.
See you on the Streets!

I'm still wondering how that flyer shows the I-10 in Boyle Heights. I thought this Town Hall was supposed to be about Hollywood. Since when does the 10 run in Hollywood? oh and for the record.... The East Hollywood NC had nothing to do with this flyer. They love mass and self propelled transportation and pedestrians too. Rumor has it they plan on entertaining the idea of endorsing the Bicyclists Bill of Rights at their next Planning and Beatification Committee meeting in April.
