Speaking of Novels and 'Now What?' - there's a great reading list for Wire fans in withdrawal that got mentioned on the TV Guide site about this the other day: http://tinyurl.com/2e3qgq It definitely was a literary experience in many ways, and the good news is there are some terrific writers - many associated w/ the series such as George Pelecanos, Richard Price and Simon himself, who can give you the same charge through a book.

If you haven't seen the finale yet, don't read the rest of my comment. I would hate for you to be *SPOILER'd* I wouldn't say everything ended happily. Baltimore's best two cops off the streets, Carcetti sells out, Daniels--the dept.'s only hope for salvation--is forced out, Templeton wins a prize, Clay Davis slithers away, and they don't get to follow the money. I wouldn't change a thing. Unless you wanna go back a few eps and talk about Omar. I love the parallels with Michael becoming Omar and how Sydonr ended up in the exact position that McNulty was in at the very beginning of the series. I have loved this show from the very beginning for refusing to be just another dumbed-down cop show. It really did unfold like a novel. A novel I am sad to have finished.

I was really surprised to see the ending have a happy ending. But I am happy to see the show end the way it did. Now I have nothing to watch on TV. RIP Wire

It didn't have the emotional punch the other season enders did... but it was a perfect bow on a perfect show.
