This is the band that had to postpone shows after one of those assholes stage-dove off a 12-foor PA tower into the audience, right? That really is an asshole move. Look up at a spot 12 feet above you, imagine someone leaping off of it, and ask yourself: are you moving away or catching him? I love the echo but love echoplex even more. Like Ross said, it's got this temperature problem, but there are certain situations where this is actually good. Last year's crystal castles show was a gloriously sweaty dance-fest that was amazing.

worriedman: those pics are all from a soundcheck, not a performance, not a rehearsal. The band members look bored because, well, soundchecks are boring. Even the Polyphonic Spree doesn't smile at their soundchecks.

I disagree with Robby entirely re: Colourmusic, however, I did really like castledoor. I'm definitely checking out their next LA show. (Which is apparently after they get back from SXSW.)

The SFA show felt like it was August in Chicago. Thankfully, not enough people knew about Holy Fuck and we could watch that in peace. That was a brilliant show. I rank your headline for the BSP review right up there with the Jet album review in Pitchfork a couple of years ago.

Having seen British Sea Power at the Echo, I must agree that their live performance was terrible. The band looked bored and I was bored watching them. I must also say that I was a bit dissappointed with Colormusic as well. The band's stage set-up, with all white outfits and equipment and colorful wheels as backdrop got me excited, but I felt their performance was a bit blah. CASTLEDOOR, the first opening act was by far the most impressive band that night. Their sound was amazing! And in addition to a great sound, Castledoor looked like they were having just as much fun on stage as I was as an audience member watching.

Agreed re: Echoplex, except that down there, the horrid humidity problem is multplied by a factor of 10. I almost passed out at Super Furry Animals a few weeks ago and I had to go home sick before it was over. Although, to be fair, I am a tremendous wuss.

it's true the echo show was plagued by a lot of bad circumstance. truthfully the last few echo shows attended have been disappointing. thinking now it could be the venue. the spaceland show was great. british sea power definitely bring something more than what's on album live. personally my friend and i thought colormusic was BAD. agree to disagree i suppose. :)

torrmoz is totally right, on both counts. British Sea Power were on my show on UCLAradio.com and were pretty great. I blame the Echo. which always seems to have horrible sound.

I agree that the Echo show was awful. However Colourmusic are awful as well.
