Skeleton Bandit Nabbed in NoHo; Shot by US Marshal at AutoZone

crimeTwo North Hollywood news items melded into one last night when, as reported on LAist, a US Marshal walked in on a robbery in progress at an auto parts store in NoHo Arts, fatally shooting one suspect who is believed to be the "Skeleton Bandit."

The robber had recently unsuccessfully held up a local Jack in the Box and a mini mart dressed in an outfit initially described as a skeleton costume, but as reported today in the Daily News, his garb was "a sweatsuit with a green skeleton outline on front and back and a hood with an outline of a green skull that zipped up to conceal his face."

It is estimated that other recent heists helmed by the "Skeleton Bandit" had netted the robber just under $700; one score at the H&K Mini Market on Sherman Way garnered the thief a mere $9.

The Marshal took aim at the robber when he emerged from the AutoZone store at Vineland and Magnolia shortly before 6 last night; he "was holding a large amount of money and a butcher knife," reports cbs2.com. He died later at the hospital from his injuries.

A second suspect allegedly fled the scene, and a manhunt was initiated. It is unclear if the fleeing man was apprehended or remains at large.

It's amazing that, after those of us in the neighborhood had to endure a three hour lockdown and cops swarming our yards, they couldn't tell us if they had caught the motherfucker.

I, for one, consider that shit pertinent fucking information.

It's even more amazing that we still don't know as of today.

as someone who lives in the perimeter as set up last night, ben bang, I COULDN'T AGREE MORE. those copters were swirling well past 11, zooming their searchlight just beyond where i live. i can't believe i don't know, either, if man #2 was caught. i couldn't believe what a scene there was last night, just a hop skip and a jump from chez moi.

Around 4:30 or so I kept hearing helicopters flying around my neighborhood so I figured there was a car accident on the freeway. Ten minutes later it was breaking news on the tv and low and behold they were right down the street at the Auto Zone and my late night Carls Jr restaurant. Damn!

I thought I was in Hollywood for a second. I kept hearing helicopters circling till around 10 or so. You think they would have run out of fuel by now.

I couldn't go outside for hours...

What, exactly, is that LAPD blog for? Why, exactly, did the news not cover this?

Did they or did they not catch the guy they weren't even sure existed?

Argh.
