I'm still a bit surprised that Into the Wild was so completely overlooked during awards season. Sure it meandered a bit, but the acting and directing were all top-notch. And how on earth was Eddie Vedder's "Hard Sun" skipped over by the Academy in favor of three--three!--songs from Enchantment? This may sound weird, but I liked everything about Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium except the actual movie. Here's another Oscar snub for you--Benicio Del Toro in Things We Lost in the Fire. Here's an Oscar non-snub for you--Jessica Alba in every movie she's ever been in (Awake certainly included). The Hogfather? Really? That was the perfect title?

It would be nice if there were more outrage towards parents who push their kids into the limelight. Honestly, is there a long list of children who've really flourished after being sucked into the adult world? My Kid Could Paint That is another such story---child shows aptitude, hence child must be foisted into the public sphere, earn money and undergo adult scrutiny for possibly being a fraud. That sounds like an amazingly healthy situation. Sure, parents always say their kids "want" to do this, but don't kids want to do a lot of crazy shit that parents are supposed to protect them from?!! The American Poop Movie? Really? That was the perfect title?
