You know how the saying goes when it comes to traffic in Los Angeles, "take Fountain." And somehow, it seems to still hold true.
Yesterday in an LA Times interview with Brian Chan, the city's traffic engineer in charge of the Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control (ATSAC) system, he tells them what could possibly debunt the city adage.
Q] What are the fastest-moving east-west streets in the city?A] Adams Boulevard. Or Venice Boulevard. If you drive around 25 to 30 miles an hour, you should hit a lot of the signals.
ATSAC is a "futuristic hideaway, computers spit out information about 3,300 intersections while huge monitors display traffic snarls beamed instantaneously from overhead cameras and underground sensors."

Damn. Venice is one of my "secret" routes out of downtown to the westside. On a good day I can make it to Culver City during rush hour in half an hour.
Ahahaha, not anymore! I kid, I kid... maybe.
Yeah, I wish he hadn't narc'd on Adams and its speedy (or at least relatively speedier) goodness. Well at least he didn't rat on unsung Jefferso -- oops!
no one ever take rodeo? if you're lucky you get to hit green light all the way from cienega to western in 10 mins. and i usually go around 40-45 mph during rush hr too, which is awesome.
And for those of us commuting over the hill, we're outta luck.
"Take Fountain" is what Bette Davis told Johnny Carson when he asked her if she had any advice for anyone who wanted to make it in Hollywood.
For those of us in the Valley who need to make it in(to) Hollywood, "Take Red Line."
Yeah, now I'm working on the West Side. No shortcuts for me! I love taking the Red Line downtown.
Hm Adams Blvd. has a bunch of crosswalks that aren't on major intersections, not to mention a red light camera right at the 110 off-ramp. But that's the Speed Racer in me talking.
