Oh No, Not the Sprouts, Too! Statewide Recall Launched

Alfalfa Sprouts that might pass on salmonella are being recalled in CaliforniaTainted sprouts might be on the shelves of your local grocery store. Although not considered a mealtime staple by many, a nice handful of sprouts can liven up a sandwich or a salad--that is unless they give you salmonella.

According to cbs2.com:

J.H. Caldwell and Sons of Maywood is recalling Always Fresh and Alfa One sprouts distributed to Trader Joes grocery stores in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. It also is recalling shipments to Beach Market, KV Mart and Superior Warehouse stores in California.

Salad Cosmo USA Corporation of Dixon is recalling sprouts distributed to stores in California and Washington, including SaveMart Supermarkets.

While no illnesses have been reported, food-related contamination incidents in the recent past serve as reminders that our produce can wield deadly bacteria and when found, immediate action is taken. Widespread public panic remains optional. What happens when you get salmonella? "The bacteria can cause diarrhea, fever and vomiting."

Check your sprouts, yo. That doesn't sound like the best way to end a meal.

Sprouts are about the easiest DIY food out there. I've always wondered why people even buy them instead of making them. I think I learned how in second grade.

just disgusting to think about bacteria from sprouts going AWOL in one's tummy. I'll stick to my grass-fed free-range beef ;-)
