Pencil This In: Friday

FILM
The Silent Movie Theatre concludes its “Love Hurts” series with the noir-ish tearjerker Brief Enounter. Directed by David Lean, Brief Encounter deals with an illicit affair between a housewife and a married doctor. A train station serves as a prominent backdrop for their weekly trysts.

FILM (Option 2)
Now for something completely different. Late night, the Silent Movie Theatre hosts a double feature of Russ Meyer’s Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! (Three strippers take time out from stripping for a little killing and kidnapping.) It’s followed up by Meyer’s Motor Psycho. In this flick, it’s three bad boy motorcyclists who rape women –and the guy who’s after them for revenge.

BENEFIT *


Tony Award Winners Audra McDonald, Sara Ramirez and Loretta Devine will all headline “Good Medicine” – a benefit show by the stars of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice to benefit those affected by the recent writer’s strike. “Almost all the stars of these two popular TV series will be participating, and the evening will include musical performances by Paul Adelstein, Amy Brenneman, Tim Daly, T.R. Knight, Chris Lowell, James Pickens, Gina Taylor-Pickens and Chandra Wilson. Justin Chambers, Eric Dane, Taye Diggs, Katherine Heigl, Chyler Leigh, Sandra Oh, Ellen Pompeo, Brooke Smith, Kadee Strickland, Shonda Rhimes (creator/executive producer of both series) and Kate Walsh will also participate.”

THEATRE
Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre celebrates the work of Edgar Allen Poe. Tonight they’re performing “The Tell-Tale Heart & The Bells,” “The Pit and the Pendulum” and as a bonus, “The Raven” performed by magician Micah Cover as he escapes from a straight jacket.

THEATRE (Option 2)
James Joyce’s “The Dead” continues at Open Fist tonight. It’s a musical adaptation of his short story that illustrates the family, friends and life he had in Ireland before his lifelong self-imposed exile.
