Weird Los Angeles: The Day It Rained Fish!

fishfall.jpgDespite being considered as quirky nonsense, the mystery of freakish falls from the sky has become a regular occurrence over the years, and Los Angeles hasn't been exempt from such bizarre downpours and surreal showers.

The setting was the Santa Monica Freeway, near Crenshaw Boulevard. The date December 19th of 1984. The weather was poor to say the least as traffic began to build on the freeway after severe storms battered the roads and heavy rain pattered the windshields, causing heavy congestion and soaked pedestrians.. However, the December 20th issue of the Los Angeles Times had something more strange to report than just the torrential rain and booming skies.

Fish and crab, very much alive began to descend from the Heavens, splattering onto the wet pavement from seemingly nowhere. There had been no reports of vehicles carrying fish having accidents on the freeway, and no trawlers had signalled distress to suggest that their load had washed ashore.

The California Highway Patrol theorised that the fish and other flapping, gasping creatures had most definitely fell from a truck, even though such beasts were seen to fall from the clouds. Weirdly, four months previous in August, fish measuring just two-inches in length, known as thread-finned shad, bombarded a couple on the drive at their southern California home. Strangely, such fish had been inhabiting a reservoir two miles away, but unless they had wings, how on earth did they get there?

Frogs had been documented falling within the last century. Keep your eyes on the skies...!
