Family, the great little bookstore on Fairfax is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a huge art show that opens tonight at 8pm and you're invited.

The show is a "Thank You" to all those who've made Family's first year a success. And what a Thank You it is - the 26 artists they've assembled for this celebratory art show are impressive and reflect everything about the store that we love - eclectic and slightly off-kilter, but always with a sense of humor. (And a seriously good selection of graphic novels, zines, comics and books.)

The show includes paintings by Dave Eggers, etchings by Ashley Macomber, music videos by Mike Mills for Barr, photography by Will Oldham, sign art by Aaron Rose and embroideries by Vanessa Davis, just to name a few. Each artist will be on hand tonight to sign a few pieces and celebrate right along with you. A full list of artists is after the jump.

The state of independent bookstores in this town is distressing and needs all the help it can get (see Dutton's, see Beyond Baroque). What better way to make sure Family stays open for the long haul than to head on out and celebrate with artists, writers and readers? The show runs through March 31st. You've got no excuses. Not one.
