DVD Tuesday: Passage to India!

The Wes Anderson Players Has anyone seen the cobra I just bought? | Photo courtesy of Fox Searchlight

Wes Anderson doesn't have many casual fans. You either love the strange worlds of whimsy he creates or you find it all a bit precious and twee. Count me in the former camp and count The Darjeeling Limited as a return to form for Anderson after the ambitious but foggy The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Next generation 3-D isn't quite there yet, but Beowulf was a huge leap forward from the dead-eyed The Polar Express. Maybe James Cameron will perfect it in Avatar. Death at a Funeral was funnier than critics and audiences gave it credit for while Comanche Moon looks quaint and a little silly next to great revisionist western fare like Deadwood.

Coldplay with Millman Are you having a laugh? He's having a LAUGH! | Photo courtesy of HBO

What is with these God damn British television series? They give us great stuff and then just quit almost as soon as they get started. After only two seasons, Andy Millman is gone and my life is a little bit less worth living. The series finale of Extras was unusually bleak so check out the Patrick Stewart and Kate Winslet episodes for some deep laughs. The Last Emperor wouldn't be made today. Too esoteric. A sad shame. Is there a more underrated television series than Newhart. I'll put it up against anything from Mary Tyler Moore to Seinfeld and find it equally worthy. Can anyone even imagine Joanna Angel as a child? I'm thinking she was...precocious.

Extras - The Extra Special Series Finale
The Last Emperor - Criterion Collection
Jesse Stone - Sea Change
The Voyeur
Bob Dylan's New York
Judgment Day - Intelligent Design on Trial
Newhart - The Complete First Season
The Fugitive - Season One, Vol. Two
O Thou Transcendent: The Life of Ralph Vaughan Williams
The Sick & Twisted Horror Of Joanna Angel
