TV Junkie: Monday - Post Oscar Hangover

Helen Mirren on Top_GearSo I won't go on about how dry and average the Oscars were last night and how the TV ratings reflect that. I will say, however, that I'd like to find anyone involved with the development and production of the movie Enchanted and incinerate them on a pile of every DVD and CD soundtrack copy of that rancid film. A brief burst of carbon emissions and pollutants now will save us from more such dreck in the future.

Tonight it's all about the return of BBCA's motorhead-minded "Top Gear". Never has the witty repartee of 3 poncey Brits been so entertaining and enjoyable. Their featured guest in tonight's season premiere is none other than Oscar fave (sighted last night several times in the audience and as a presenter) Dame Helen Mirren. They have a chat with her and subjugate her to driving a gutless commuter car around a racetrack - brilliant and hilarious. The season hold many more surprise guests and stunts, such as driving converted automobiles (as boats) across the English Channel.

Wasn't the Top Gear in America supposed to have new hosts? These episodes seem to be reruns of last season's episodes on the BBC in the UK.

Not that it's bad, as the English Channel bit was one of the best of the season, amongst lots of really good stuff this season. The North Pole visit pre-season was awesome as well.

Thanks for the comment Aldo - these are definitely reruns _but_ new for the USA and that's what matters I guess. I think they're great and are fun to watch even a second or third time I'm discovering.

I loved Enchanted almost as much as I love non sequitors!

How about the horrible Oscar night network audio!

I guess ABC doesn't know how surround works..

Center channel panned right... surround to center, etc. Most people just thought the mix sucked. Maybe not if the channel assignment had been correct.

But the Grammy audio was even worse. Shameful.
