Umbrellas and Raincoats: This Year's Oscar Red Carpet's Must-Have Accessories

VerticalOscarRain.jpgLooks like the Academy Awards don't have the same in with Mother Nature and the big meteorologist in the sky the way the Tournament of Roses Parade does.

It's a wet Sunday morning in the city known around the world for its perpetual sunshine, and when everyone's tuned into the 80th Annual Academy Awards this afternoon, the ugly truth will be revealed: It rains in Los Angeles!

And it's probably going to keep raining. Cbs2.com reports that "Oscars organizers are hoping the red carpet doesn't get waterlogged. Last-minute preparations for the 80th annual Academy Awards geared up Sunday amid a forecast of showers for the arrival area along Hollywood Boulevard."

Speaking of the arrival area, don't forget that a whole lot of streets in the vicinity of the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland will be shut down for the duration today. The forecast for traffic in Hollywood today is quite simple: A mess.

So how will the glamorous elite keep their frocks and diamonds safe from the elements? Or will they put on a Hollywood smile and just grin and bear it? I guess we'll just have to stay tuned...and, considering the rain and traffic, stay indoors, too.
