Bargain airliner Skybus is adding a route into Burbank's Bob Hope Airport starting Monday. The airline has two US hubs, and has been operating flights to and from the one in Columbus, Ohio for some time now, and is now linking BUR with its other hub in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The big draw with Skybus is that they sell ten seats on every flight for $10 each (plus all those pesky fees and taxes, of course). Their ultimate goal, according to a message from their CEO, is to provide transit for their passengers between secondary city airports without a layover, meaning "you’ll be able to fly on large brand new airplanes to major cities across the country without stopping in cities like Chicago or Atlanta to change airplanes before you can go on to your destination." They also have a policy of not using airports that suffer congestion (which one doesn't these days?) and are able to offer fares an average 65% lower than other carriers by automating as much of the ticketing process as possible.
Of course, revolutionizing a sector of the air travel market takes time, and there are only so many people in Los Angeles who are interested in direct flights to Columbus or Greensboro. As Skybus catches on, hopefully they will offer flights that link cities aside from their hubs; they serve airports in the New Orleans, Boston, San Francisco, Milwaukee, Chicago and many more areas. $10 from Burbank to the East Coast? Now that's a deal!

I have a feeling I'm more likely to be awakened by one of these behemoths flying overhead than catching one of those ten-dollar fares. Not good news for those of us in Burbank.
Okay, this is weird - Apparently, you can buy a flight leaving from LA, but the only possible destinations are Columbus and Greensboro.
right, ross. that's what i said in the post. their flights all route through their two hubs, columbus and greensboro.
elise--they've been flying those planes out of BUR for a couple of years now, only up until monday it would have just been to columbus. do the planes wake you up? i've lived in the flight path for almost ten years, and i hardly notice them, no matter what time of day or night.
Oh! You know, reading comprehension isn't just a river in Egypt, or so I've heard. Thanks for clarifying what you already clarified. Thanks Lindsay! Thindsay!
Oh, I thought the Airbus was that giant new plane they unveiled at LAX las year. I'd tell you the name, but clearly I thought it was Airbus.
BTW, Burbank's 7am-11pm rule kicks ass. Even if that's when I'm sleeping.
Elise, Airbus (of france) is one of the two main airplane manufacturers in the world (the other being Boeing). Similar to cars-- Ford is the make, and Falcon being the model. Airbus is the make.
This airLINE (not airplane) in the post above is called 'Skybus', and they fly 'Airbus' make planes, model A319.
The giant new plane which was shown this year at LAX is an "Airbus" model A380.
