elise: about 3 years ago at the one in Northridge (on sepulveda?). there was a class breakfast from a local high school so they were a little harried/all over the place and of course my table was neglected. When i brought up the fact that they had forgotten my pancake too, they weren't too happy about it and the server just snuck one in from another plate from a group who had finished and acted as if I didn't notice. if you're going to do that at least do that in the back of the restaurant? i've had some good memories and interesting stories from that place...but that is the watered down story.

Millie's is one of my occasional weekend brunch spots and I like it. I even brought my parents here once and they loved it. As SilverLake has grown up it's probably not as hipster-greasy as it was a few years back (though I wasn't here to witness). On several occasions I"ve met new friends there and gotten into some interesting cross-table conversations.

I do The Usual, w/ French Toast, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and chicken-apple sausage

Also -- Chicken Fried Chicken -- I know I've seen it somewhere in LA... i'll get back to you on that one....

Now the million dollar question is where can you find the Soyrizo Fried Soyrizo?

I hadn't been to Millie's in a couple of years when I joined Elise there for breakfast, and I was pleasantly surprised, too, although thankfully it wasn't a crazy crowded weekend. Those pancakes were good, just when you got the center where most of the chocolate was concentrated it was a bit too bitter for my liking. I think when I order Chocolate Chip pancakes I'm looking to feed my inner child--the one who, if she was lucky, got to order them at the Golden Griddle in Toronto when she was little.

Elise, thanks for clearing that up. Your typo made me momentarily hope that Millie's was serving up chicken-fried *chicken*, something I've only seen at the fabulous Hattie's Hat in Seattle. Pounded chicken breast, breaded and gravied and oh so good!

Pretty sure the Maynard in question is this guy, who was a several-times-a-day regular at Millie's at one time.

Garvanza: You caught me. Typing late at night, something weird always happens. I've fixed it.

Teeem:
That is fascinating. I assumed it was an employee or a regular. Jackie G is certainly not Jackie K. Any ideas on that one or on Maynard? I can only think of Maynard Ferguson.

dear Elise,
Millie's traces its history back to the thirties, if not the twenties. the 'Eleanor R' on the menu is a little homage to Eleanor Roosevelt, the first lady from 1933 to 1945. she was famous for being a human rights advocate and all-round wise ol' do-gooder.
this was way before the Beatles.

Oh, the memories. So who owns this place these days?

My days of going to Millie's stopped in the mid-1990s, after an ownership change that led to a hipper-than-thou attitude that just felt *wrong* to pay for.

As for chicken-fried steak - usually it's beef, not chicken. Are you sure they use chicken in their version? Regardless, it looks delish and I am now HUNGRY!
