Soundcheck: The Airborne Toxic Event, The Deadly Syndrome & Castledoor @ Spaceland, 1/31/08

The Airborne Toxic Event
Part of an ongoing series.

Three weeks ago, The Airborne Toxic Event (MySpace) concluded their January residency at Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake with a show that included The Deadly Syndrome (MySpace) and Castledoor (MySpace). It was a chance to see all three of Kevin Bronson's bands to watch on the same stage in a single night.

So many people (including Kiefer Sutherland, who had recently completed his DUI prison sentence) descended to Spaceland to see the triple headliners, that the line snaked past the auto body shop, around the corner, and up the street. In fact, according to The Airborne Toxic Event, "There were 467 people through the door at the sold out show and about another 300 turned away. Thank you so much for braving the line and being a part of it all."

And Classical Geek Theatre reported that "Every blogger and awesome radio show told its audience 'get there early'. ... I'd heard that Spaceland was opening doors at 8pm, which was not true, but it put the panic in some. I got there at 8:30pm and there were already 100 people in line. Doors opened at 8:45pm (due to a late soundcheck, I am told) and I didn't even get in until after 10pm. At the end of the night, I overheard someone say that 500 were let in and 200 were turned away. The owner told me he gets a crowd like this '12 or 13 times a year,' though I'd never seen it like that first-hand. Ever."

As mentioned in Wednesday's edition of Midnight Movie, tickets for The Airborne Toxic Event's next show is on March 3rd at The Troubadour are on-sale, and as of earlier this week, they are already halfway past being sold out. Meanwhile, The Deadly Syndrome's next local show will be on March 23rd at The Roxy (MySpace) in West Hollywood, while Castledoor's is on February 27th at The Echo (MySpace). And all three bands will be performing at SXSW in Austin.

After reading the Pearl Jam/Ticketmaster post here, I thought I'd mention that two tickets to the Airborne Toxic Event cost $42.50. These tickets are listed at $12 each, however, they are raised to $21.25 each after ticketmaster fees, convenience fees, and make-up-your-own fees. Just thought I would let you all know that if you can, buy your tickets right from the Troubadour direct.

duh.

What a great bandname-- I believe that the name Airborne Toxic Event is taken from the Don DeLillo novel White Noise, that's just my guess. This band has great hair and they are well read.
