RedMercury, you must be one of the few consciencious bike commuters who rides the Green/Blue lines. I worked a three-month gig in El Segundo last year and took crowded morning and evening rush-hour Blues to the Greens to Aviation station and back several times a week and there were plenty of riders who didn't heed the no-bikes rule.

Keep in mind, also, that the airport is a pretty big employer. It may not be so much that people can bike to their flight as it is that people can bike to work.

I'm down here in Orange County, but I work close to LAX. I bike up to Long Beach once-a-week and take the Blue Line and Green Line to work.

About the only thing I'd like to is to be able to take my bike on the train during morning rush hour...

That's a great question Zach. I emailed the LAWA (http://www.lawa.org) to see if they offered any, then did a search of "bicycle parking" on their site. The only thing it yielded up was a link to a downloadable PDF (link below) for some sort of Metro bike parking survey. None of the questions pertain directly to bike parking at airports but I'm gonna fill it out and mail it anyway (of course there's no online version; that would be convenient!)

Come to think of it, can someone make a comment here on where LAX long-term bike parking is?

Think outside the suitcase strux! I've taken weekenders with everything I needed in a backpack, but for those longer stays, it's not out of the realm of possibility to ship your bigger baggagesses to your destination hotel and then ship them back again, thus enabling you and your carry-on to ride ride ride!

It's a couple extra steps that are not for everybody, but it's certainly doable.

Who would ride their bike to the airport? What about luggage?

They should recreate something similar to the Orange Line: A separate, segmented bike path. Or at least bike lanes running parallel to the track!
