DVD Tuesday: Break out the wallets!

Wow! Most weeks I'm happy if there are a couple of new DVDs worth picking up. Today, I count at least eight that would be solid editions to any library. American Gangster may not have been the great film that many were expecting, but it was still solid studio fare. I'll say the same for Michael Clayton even though it inexplicably got better critical attention. Has Ang Lee ever made the same movie twice? Is he the most under-appreciated major director working today? Can you say the same thing about Paul Haggis--only in reverse? Having seen the Don Rickles special several times on HBO, let me tell you something--go buy it, you schmuck.

we're all not movie buffs here... it would be nice if you connected the directors with the actual movie titles in your write up...

That's not a bad idea for future DVD release write-ups. Maybe list the director if they're noteworthy?

Ah... what to spar with today, ha ha ha!
I got roped into seeing Michael Clayton a second time, and I'm impressed at how well it holds up on a repeated viewing. Unlike some other Oscar contenders this year, it attempts to entertain and generally succeeds.
In The Valley Of Elah, on the other hand, is about as awful as movies get, and was still only the second worst film of 2007 (Smokin' Aces takes that honor). So it even sucks at sucking.
And I have no idea what 'girl boss revenge' is, but it sounds like something I want to see.

I like it Gatsby...check back next week for full implementation...

Michael Clayton is solid. But, for me, that's all it really is...solid. It could have been much more if it had the guts to go for its faux-ending instead of the real one. As it is, the final showdown with Swinton is a little too Perry Mason for me. As if a cool cat like Swinton would ever have been snared so easily.
