Will Ferrell Brings Solar to Downtown, Rose The Landlord Unavailable for Comment

Solar Panels for St. George Hotel Downtown, Thanks to Will FerrellIn an effort to bring solar power to those who will benefit from it but simply can't afford it, a new partnership created between the nonprofit Enterprise Community Partners and BP donates one solar panel to a low-income residence for every solar panel purchased by a celebrity.

As the Downtown News reports, Downtown's St. George Hotel, a housing facility operated by the Skid Row Housing Trust, is the first multi-unit project to receive panels through the program and they have Will Ferrell to thank for it. Ferrell's purchase of an unusually large solar panel system for his L.A. home meant an equally large number of panels were donated at one time.

It is expected that the new rooftop solar electric system at The St. George will cut the energy bill by roughly $2,000 a year. Great news for The St. George, great news for Downtown, great news for the environment. No word on whether Rose, The Landlord, approves of the move as she was unavailable for comment.

"when a celebrity purchases a solar panel for his or her own home through BP, a similar panel is donated to a low-income residence."

I wonder who will define who is a "celebrity" for this program?

Torrmoz - A VERY good point and I'm still waiting to hear back on the email I sent to the program asking that very question. The "celebrities" must purchase their solar from BP to be part of the program, but I'm curious if they self-deem themselves celebrities or if there's a panel of some sort that decides.

For the sake of those who get the free solar, I'd hope that the definition of celebrity in this case is very broad.

Any information gathered will be provided in a separate post or as an update.
