Box Office Review: America Loves Fools

In what can only be seen as a ratification of Mike Huckabee's belief that Satan actually exists, Fool's Gold roared to the top of the box office this weekend with a robust take of $22M. Plans are already underway for a third Kate Hudson-Matthew McConaughey pairing, tentatively titled Shit Sandwich. In further bad news, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins finished second with a healthy gross of $17.1M in its first weekend. A sequel to the film has already been greenlit: Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins 2: Similar Premise.

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour plummeted 66% in its second weekend but should still prove to be a big hit ($10.5M/$53.3M). After that it was all hold-overs: the awful The Eye ($6.6M/$21.5M), the resilient Juno ($5.7M/$117.6M), the equally resilient 27 Dresses ($5.7M/$65.3M), the triply resilient The Bucket List ($5.3M/$75M), the hilarious Rambo ($4.1M/$36.5M), the non-hilarious Meet the Spartans ($4M/$33.9M) and the towering There Will Be Blood ($4M/$26.7M).

In limited release, In Bruges ($16,821 per theater) and The Band's Visit ($10,085) both did great business. The same can not be said for Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights which only managed $527 per venue. See this very funny movie now because it won't last long in theaters. Finally--in a shocker--America rejected Paris Hilton's The Hottie and the Nottie which averaged a Jessica Simpson-like $225 per theater. Hilton's Razzie campaign should commence shortly with a fucking boatload of awards possible.
