LAst Night's Action: Local Teams Slug Opponents

That's why some people watch hockey.UCLA 67, Washington State 59 - The #5 Bruins returned a favor by knocking off the #17 Cougars on their home court. Darren Collison scored all 18 of his points in the second half and Kevin Love had 16 on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. UCLA improves to 21-2 overall, and at 9-1 in the Pac-10 hold on to first place by a game over Stanford.

USC 73, Washington 59 - USC looked strong in the first half, with O.J. Mayo pouring in 20 points and the Trojans going up by double-digits with just a few minutes left in the period. But shortly into the second, the Huskies evened it up. That's when USC erupted for 19 unanswered points. O.J. Mayo was relatively quiet during the run, but punctuated it with a three and finished with 29 overall. At 6-4, USC is now third in the Pac-10 and 15-7 overall.

Ducks 4, Rangers 1 - A solid 32 save performance by Jean-Sebastien Giguere helped propel Anaheim past New York. The Ducks finally showed that they can put the puck in the net, after struggling offensively for the past couple weeks. The game also produced this classic fight photo (right).

Kings 5, Red Wings 3 - Holy upset, octopus man! On the verge of matching a franchise record nine straight wins, Detroit had LA on the ropes with a 3-1 lead in the third. Out of nowhere, the lowly Kings rallied for four goals and stole a win away from the Motor City.

Elsewhere - High school football recruit now a lock for douchebag of the year award ... The house loses for the first time in 13 years ... Need to know how to heckle an opposing baseball team? There's a new blog all about it ... Life's tough for the Beckhams. No, really ... Maybe Becks would actually play here if the Premiership comes over.

Today's Action - Lakers @ Orlando, Clippers @ Toronto, and Ducks @ New Jersey, all at 4:00pm.

Wow, big props to the Red Wings/octopus joke! Me, the author, and about 7 other people might get that, but I approve.

GO WINGS!

Perhaps one of the finest traditions in all of sports! I grew up in the Bay Area when the Red Wings and Sharks had a mini-rivalry going, and always thought that was really cool!

Oh man, the Wings/Sharks played a heart-attack playoff series last year... It beat the hell out of the Wings, and broke them down for the-evil-that-shall-not-be-named.

I grew up in Detroit going to Wings games, and Joe Louis Arena was like the Lambeau Field of hockey arenas. Though I hear that the Shark tank gets absolutely crazy.

Now that the Sharks have Jody Shelley they're probably more bruising than ever!

Joe Louis is one I've always wanted to visit. The Shark Tank is fun, definitely a rowdy crowd. It's one of the loudest sports venues I've ever been to.
