John O'Groats, I believe is following a trend in the Los Angeles area, in which, the smaller eateries is what's in. A lot of locations put in use of the proper ambiance to go with these meals, it makes for an enjoyable time.
Try these as well:

Fred 62 - East Hollywood
S&W Country Diner - Culver City
Grub - Hollywood

Enjoy - great review......

I am in love with their oatmeal! (Foodeater - call ahead, maybe they can or do prepare it without milk and butter).

I haven't been in years because of the long wait, but you were seated right away? You have given me hope!

Beautiful photos, as always.

JOG's tortillas are made from biscuit dough, that's why they are a little thicker and taste different than plain flour tortillas.

There are a bunch of other dishes to try, my favorites being the Eggs Bennie on Top of Artichoke Bottoms and the Asiago Potato Pancakes.

I've never heard JOG's described as inconspicuous, this place is a Westside landmark.

I won't be having any because I'm vegan, but I gotta admit that all the food in your pictures looks nicely cooked, fresh and most importantly, delicious (the pancakes in particular)!
