The most exciting thing about this primary campaign is the fact that it is reinvigorating in the public an interest in the direction of our nation, our state and even our communities.
Witness the energy in the cycling community.
This past weekend cyclists “Biked the Vote” with City Council President Eric Garcetti on a bike ride from the Eco-Village to Marsh Park in Elysian Valley where they discussed politics and then phone banked on behalf of Obama.
Bike forums such as MidnightRidazz have been alive with political discussions that rage into the late hours, ultimately concluding with cyclists urging each other to “Just Vote” and take your friends with you!
The urge for better representation doesn’t end with an admonition to go vote but it is growing and turning into an interest in local politics.
Tonight, cyclists “Storm the Bastille” with a ride to the DWP Boardroom to urge the Mayor’s representatives and the City Council representatives to take back a message to the City’s leadership that cyclists count. This is the same message that they took to the City Council last week when they urged the City to count people, not just automobiles, when evaluating traffic and congestion.
Further, the cycling community is abuzz with demands based on a Bicyclist Bill of Rights!
