Wake Up LA: Raw Oatmeal, Cinnamon Rolls & Smoothies

Raw Smoothies at Leaf Cuisine

Is there not a fresher way to start your morning of then with raw food? Eating uncooked (nothing above 110 degrees F) and unprocessed organic vegan food might be just the wake-me-up energizer some need and with two locations in the Los Angeles area, Leaf Cuisine might fit that bill.

Their menu only has two items listed under breakfast and one of them is the best oatmeal in Los Angeles. Going back to that uncooked part, Leaf's Apple Spice Oatmeal ($5.50) is a cold, yet delicious cereal filled with sprouted oats, apples, bananas, almond butter, raisins and dates. If you hate warm mushy oatmeal, then this is your answer, no doubt.

The second and only other item listed on the breakfast menu are the sweet Cinnamon Rolls ($4.99). They actually do not look or taste like the traditional cinnamon roll, but carry the essence and spirit of them. The "dough" is made up of buckwheat and flax and "rolled" with cinnamon date filling and topped with cashew cream.

And for those smoothie-breakfast types, Leaf offers twelve different shakes ($4.75-$8.99) to choose from as well as assorted teas ($1.50), wheat grass shots ($1.50), fressh carrot, celery and orange juices ($3.99-$4.50) and two vegetable-mix juices -- Veggie Combo (carrot, celery, beet, kale, collard greens and parsley, $4.99) and Got Greens (celery, spinach, kale, collard greens and parsley, $5.50).

Leaf is an order-to-sit-down restaurant with a clean contemporary feel. Stark white and a highlight green dominate the color scheme with white chairs, tables, bar stools and booths to enjoy your food over. Self-serve filtered water is available.

I've never heard of this place until now. Apparently it was opened back in 2005? is it? I just looked up a YouTube video review and a LA.foodblogging entry about it :-)

Yeah, the Sherman Oaks location opened up in '05, a great addition to the Valley. The Culver City location was around a little longer. Check it out!
