Indie Pop Explosion In Your Ears, Tonight @ The Scene in Glendale

Band3.jpgIf you're like me and you hate pro football, or if you're looking for something to do after Football Team A defeats Football Team B in the field of Superbowly Combat, go to The Scene in Glendale tonight, and see NYC based Indie Pop Band Murder Mystery, along with LA's The Tartans and Oxnard's Maria.

So why should you brave the rain and the perils of Glendale? Well if you're like me, you're in need of something strong to get you through February while you wait for the upcoming Magnetic Fields tour, and as it turns out, Murder Mystery is just the fix you're looking for. They make the kind of intimate, witty pop music that New York City bands (Baskervilles, for example,) are surprisingly good at. Sweet, deceptively chipper melodies, extremely catchy songs about unrequited love and wanting to get "it" on with said unrequited love, and they also have a song called Love Astronaut. If that isn't reason enough, you need to have your soul checked out by a doctor.

It's also worth noting that Maria and The Tartans are both very good and both well worth your time (and money.) They both make wonderful, unadorned Indie Pop that, most appealing to my ears, has great, low frills production like it was recorded live in studio (perhaps the bedroom,) or at least, that isn't ruined by pro-tools. Check out their MySpace profiles and hear for yourself. I specifically want to draw your attention To Maria's "I must not think bad thoughts," and The Tartans "Cats of Camerford."
