Some of the information here just simply wrong.

Specifically about don't block the box. A parking enforcement officer aka directional officer can't issue you any ticket other then parking ticket. In Los Angeles they are part of ladot, which makes them civilians. Also the only way a piece officer can issue you a ticket is if he/she pulled you over and actually issue you a ticket.

As such when ticket comes in to the mail, a simple argument it wasn't me driving will get ticket dismissed. Currently, you're not required to id who was driving the car.

Wagonmaster, Reverto is right on. Santa Monica Blvd from the 405 right through to Century City. It's actually pretty nice.

The mayor's suggestions are brilliantly stupid. Bicycles missing is just on problem. The underlying notion seems to be that mass transit is a simple problem - just point to it and people will use it. At the minimum transit should be broken out into 4 topics: Buses, Light Rail, Bikes, and Long Distance Commuter Options. Each one of these has many facets, but instead the mayor focused on meter improvements?!?!?

Antonio = FAIL.

I would love to ride my bike to work, but, I live near Pico & Bundy, and I work in Century City. It's not far, but, riding a bike on Pico or Olympic is a death sentence.

You're right-on about Pico and Olympic, but the newly-rebuilt Santa Monica Blvd. has a great bike lane. You could zig-zag through neighborhoods to Santa Monica and Sawtelle, take the sidewalk under the 405, and then it's smooth-sailing straight to Century City.

You should give it a try, WagonMonster. There's nothing more liberating then zooming by gridlock on a bike.

lets also not stop and stare at the car accident on the way to work and call 50 people describing it indetail to them while going 5mph and then getting mad when someone behind you honks at you.

Traffic engineers suggest that there are THREE solutions to traffic congestion:

1) new routes

2) improved routes

3) modified Motorist behavior

Of these, the low hanging fruit is "modifying motorist behavior."

In '84 the city staggered everything. Deliveries, school schedules, work schedules, etc. and the City worked! The behavior was modified!

Ah, but there are more people now.

Get motorists out of the car! Simply reducing the number of single occupant vehicles by 10% would relieve congestion to the '84 Olympic levels and you would be able to get anywhere in LA in 20 minutes.

But addressing Motorist behavior isn't press conference sexy. Sooooo, we're gonna synchronize lights that have been sychronized so many times since '84 they qualify as a light show!

Motorists, be the change!

See you on the Streets!

Tax benefits for bicycle commuters, miniature vehicles (scooters, motorcycles, 3 wheeled cars... hah, like that car in Mr. Bean!). How could you make these space and fuel efficient methods of transport more attractive to southern californians??

As crappy as film based adverts are, how about getting the movie studios to insert brands like schwinn, trek, and vespa into the blockbusters instead of coke, pepsi, and ford?

Beach cruisers instead of beamers!
