Pencil This In: Tuesday

Leonard Nimoy speaks at the HammerTALK
Natalie Angier, New York Times reporter and author of Woman: An Intimate Geography, has written foreword to Full Body Project, the recently published book of photographs by Leonard Nimoy (yes Trekkies, Spock). The two will focus their Hammer Conversation on the concepts of beauty and sexuality.

7 pm // Hammer Museum // 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles // Free.

MORE TALK
As we read in Get Your Lit On, yesterday, Fritjof Capra talks with Manuel Castells, Wallis Annenberg Chair in Communications, Technology and Society, about “The Science of Leonardo: Inside the Mind of the Great Genius of the Renaissance” as part of the ALOUD at the Central Library series.

7 pm // Los Angeles Central Library’s Mark Taper Auditorium // 630 W. 5th St., Los Angeles // Free (but reservations strongly recommended for this one).

AND STILL MORE TALK
The Health Politics ’08 series continues at the Center for Healthy Communities with “Will February 5 be a Super Tuesday for Health Care in America?” The panel discussion, moderated by KPCC’s Kitty Felde, features Susan Dentzer, health correspondent for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer; Chip Kahn, president of the Federation of American Hospitals; and Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA. They’ll discuss the presidential candidates’ “prescriptions” for fixing the nation’s ailing health care system and how those plans may affect California and the rest of the country.

7 pm // Center for Healthy Communities @ The California Endowment // 1000 N. Alameda St., Los Angeles // Free.

FILM
Where else but in Hollywood can we find a “Stuntman Appreciation Night?” Not only will the Richard Rush film The Stunt Man be screened, but also many of the daredevils who appeared in the movie will be present to swap stories, answer questions and show off their greatest film clips.

8 pm // Silent Movie Theatre // 611 N. Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles // $10.

THEATRE
Former Daily Show correspondent Lauren Weedman’s one-woman show Bust opens at the Bootleg tonight. She talks about her life in Hollywood and her volunteer gig at the L.A. County Jail. “The incarcerated women for whom she advocates, and the mixed motives that have brought Weedman to their door, are portrayed with humor, energy and biting self-indictment.”

8 pm // Bootleg Theatre // 2220 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles // $12 online and $15 at the door.
