ART
ART LA 2008 is billed as "the only art fair in Los Angeles exclusively dedicated to contemporary art" and runs through tomorrow at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. This year's event "features 64 prominent international and Los Angeles-based galleries" offering an "informed cross section of contemporary art trends."

PHOTOGRAPHY
Tonight is the opening reception at M+B for Rocky Schenk's Los Angeles-themed show that "focuses on the aura of the city that surrounds us." We are told "Schenck's work lies somewhere between our greatest fantasies and our worst fears. His pieces are consumed by a darkness that is as romantic as it is dangerous." Yeah, sounds like LA.

DANCE
Drought and Rain Vol 2 is the sequel to a show from 1995 choreographed by Ea Sola, telling the story of her return to post-war Vietnam in the late 80s. Her new piece features dancers from the Vietnam National Opera Ballet, and speaks to the contemporary perspective of the inherited legacy of the Vietnam War, and employs, therefore, more contemporary movement. THEATRE
Mark Ravenhill's The Cut is in its US premiere run at the Rude Guerrilla Theater Company in Orange County. The story: "At home, Paul is a loving father and husband, but when he goes to work he administers The Cut. As society becomes revolted by his profession, Paul suffers a crisis of conscience and has to come to terms with himself and his 'profession.'" The play comes with a warning that some language and scenes may be disturbing to some viewers, so, parents, get a sitter, this one isn't for the kiddies.
