Metro's Gold Line Expansion Will Shut Down First Street Bridge

GoldLineTrain.jpgThe Metro's Gold Line Expansion project is causing the First Street Bridge near Downtown to close down for about a month while construction on the light-rail line moves forward.

The bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic starting at around 7:00 Sunday night, but will be open to pedestrian traffic on the south side. The First Street Bridge is between Mission Road and Vignes Street. KTLA reports the detours as follows:

Westbound traffic on First Street will be detoured northbound on Mission Road, westbound on Cesar Chavez Avenue, southbound on Alameda Street to westbound First Street.

The primary detour for eastbound traffic on First Street will be northbound on Alameda Street, eastbound on Cesar Chavez Avenue, southbound on State Street and eastbound on First Street.

An alternate detour for eastbound traffic on First Street will be southbound on Alameda Street, eastbound on Fourth Street, northbound on Cummings Street and eastbound on First Street.

The work being done is installing a right-of-way median and a re-striping of the street as part of the line's 6 mile extension from Union Station to Atlantic/Pomona Blvds. in East LA. It is expected to be open for service next year.
