Santa Monica, as part of the LUCE process, is considering cover over the 10 freeway from 14th Street to 11th Street. This would have a similar effect, connecting neighborhoods that are presently separated, though less so than in the 101 case. The LUCE process:

YES! Please someone explain to me how 2.5 billion dollars were spent without a stitch of artistic integrity? Yes, it's bright. Yes, it's flashy. Yes, those two things will probably act as a magnet for the mindless consumer but what are we doing to Los Angeles' culture?

Think of your all-time favorite buildings and spaces in LA. The greened copper tower on top of The Wiltern, the old theaters on Broadway downtown, the interesting levels of the residential community at the base of the Hollywood Hills. Things that are distinctively LA.

LA LIVE was an opportunity to add a destination that, as a native Angelino, I could take visitors as an example of what makes LA unique. Instead it looks like a place that belongs in some futuristic cartoon. It is a complete joke.

What happened? Where were the city historians and cultural experts? What happened to LA's distinctive Spanish-inspired architecture? Or highlighting the beautiful year-round weather with arches, and greenery?

I am so disappointed in my city for the direction that it is headed.
