The normal-looking man nursing a hangover in the middle of all this lunacy is Tom Coston, who's become Doo Dah's P.T. Barnum since his nonprofit arts organization, The Light Bringer Project, bought the parade 12 years ago from founder and legendary Pasadena barfly Peter Apanel for $2.

" … It's worth three," joked Coston about the almost yearly event, which for some time has taken place on the Sunday before Thanksgiving in Old Pasadena but [this year celebrated] its 31st occasional occurrence on Jan. 20.

Founded as an alcohol-soaked spoof of the Rose Parade that was always held on Sundays - unlike the Rose Parade, which is never held on Sunday - predicting what will happen each year is difficult even for organizers.

ADDENDUM: A Report from Former queen Tequila Mockingbird:

The Doo Dah was extra fun this year. I went along on the 1Second Film bus selling producers and associate producerships to the masses. The project is one second of film and 90 minutes of behind the scenes and credits.

Nina Hagen marched with the Dennis Kuchcinich, The Barbeque grill team were grilling hotdogs behind, (a vegan's nightmare). Next were the Queen Naughty Micki, Snotty Scotty and the Hankies' float, Horses on Astro turf, The Hoola Hoop Army, Wino's from Monrovia, The Bastard Sons of Lee Marvin, and sooooo much more...

The after-parties were fantastic. I sang, "How Many More Times" by Zepp at the Olde Town Pub, stopped at Molly's, then on to the Official Doo Dah party at The Veterans Hall where Reverend Billy turned us on to what round and sticky is really all about. Everybody was dancing and you don't see that often outside of a rave club.

Another successful Doo Dah. What a great way to start the year.
